How to Measure Doorways and Access Before Furniture Delivery
Share
A sofa can fit perfectly in the living room and still fail to reach it if a doorway, hallway or stair turn is too tight. Delivery planning should happen before you order large furniture.
Measure the furniture itself
Record the overall width, depth and height of each piece. For sofas, note whether legs or other removable parts can be taken off for delivery, but do not assume they can unless the product information confirms it.
Measure every doorway on the route
Measure the clear opening, not just the door frame. Handles, hinges and the door itself can reduce usable space.
Check hallways and turning points
A narrow hallway may be wide enough for the furniture but still lack the turning radius needed at a corner. Measure both hallway width and the space available to rotate the item.
Do not forget stairs and lifts
Measure stair width, landing depth, ceiling clearance and lift-door openings. Apartment buyers should also check building access rules and loading arrangements.
Check the final room entrance
Measure the doorway into the destination room and make sure there is clear floor space for the delivery team to position the furniture safely.
