How to Style Artificial Plants So They Look Natural and Luxurious

Artificial plants can soften a room filled with hard surfaces, metal and glass, but scale and placement determine whether they look convincing.

Choose the right height for the location

Large floor plants work well in empty corners, beside consoles or near windows. Smaller plants suit side tables and shelves. Avoid placing a tiny plant in a large empty corner where it will look lost.

Shape the leaves

Artificial plants often arrive compressed. Gently separate and angle the stems so the plant has an irregular, natural silhouette rather than a perfectly symmetrical shape.

Use a substantial pot or planter

A good planter can dramatically improve the overall look. Choose a pot that relates to the furniture finishes and is large enough to visually support the plant.

Place plants where real plants might grow

Even though artificial plants do not need sunlight, placing them near natural light or in plausible indoor locations makes them feel more authentic.

Do not overcrowd the room

One strong floor plant can be more effective than many small plants scattered around. Use greenery to balance the furniture rather than compete with it.
